One part of the building also included the royal bath. It is considered to be the most decorated mosque of the Mughal period. This mosque is famous for its special faience tiles work. That is known as kashi work. The Punjab government has been working on the restoration of the mosque since 2009, which also includes the governments of the Germany and United states. Its construction was completed approximately in 7 years. The mosque was built on the high peak. This mosque is famous for their extensive decoration. Among the other monuments of shah jahan’s time, this mosque also has a complex work of tiles. The exterior of the Mosque is adorned with Persian style tiles work. The interior courtyard, the facets are embellished with motifs. Also the Persian style colours used in this mosque. And the Persian style maps includes star shaped flowers and grapevines. It also have the motifs of pine trees. The arched of the entrance of the Mosque is towards Wazir Khan chowk is highly decorated with floral motifs. The domes above the prayer hall reflects the style of former Lodhi family. The courtyard approximately 160 feet and 130 feet in measurement. The courtyard is surrounded with high arched galleries that is a feature of Persian Mosques. There is a big pond in the courtyard of the mosque which is used for Wadu. There is a sketch in courtyard land which is the tomb of 14th century Sufi saint syed Muhammad Ishaq. The courtyard is connected with 32 Khanas with all four sides. There are four 107 foot tall minarets of Mosque. And that are located on each corner of courtyard. There is a 31 foot tall dome in the central part of prayer hall having diameter of 23 feet. The remaining section in the prayer hall having 21 foot tall dome with the diameter of 19 feet. The entrance faces wazir khan chowk. 

Background

It was built in 17th century. This mosque was built during the reign of Mughal Emperor Shah jahan.  Construction of this building was completed in 1641. This mosque was opened in 1642. This mosque was built by the chief physician to the Mughal court and he is known as Wazir khan. Wazir khan later became the Viceroy of Punjab, and worked on several monuments of Lahore. Wazir Khan converted the old Maryam zamani Mosque into the main mosque in Lahore for Friday prayers. There were book stores and many more shops in front of the mosque. And the purpose of the income from them was to spend on the maintenance of the Mosque.
